From younger dancers in the early stages of their career, to those wishing to change up their career path, ZooNation aim to offer opportunities for artists at every stage of their professional journey. Here we will post talent development, training and job vacancies both within ZooNation and occasionally with affiliated companies.
ZooNation is offering a paid placement opportunity on our upcoming production Ebony Scrooge, at Sadler’s Wells East, as a part of our Behind The Scenes Initiative. The initiative aims to support Black and Global Majority talent in creative and backstage theatre roles, who are currently underrepresented in the sector.
For Ebony Scrooge the placement offered is with the Lighting team, learning from and shadowing our Lighting Designer.
The placement will take place across 14 sessions, which may vary between full days and split days. Within this placement, you will receive hands on experience of working on a main stage production with ZooNation.
To be eligible to apply for this placement, you must be:
– Aged 18 – 25
– Have some experience or transferrable skills in Lighting design or programming, such as through school or a project, but no formal qualification in this area (a degree course).
– Available during the placement dates (See below) – we will plan initial dates based on mutual availability of the creative team and successful applicant however, you must have good availability throughout the dates stated below and be completely available for those dates listed in bold.
– Be from the Global Majority.
Dates required for this programme:
Interview date: Monday 2nd November 2026 > Be available for a 30 minute Zoom meeting.
14 sessions, dates to be confirmed with successful applicant, falling between;
– Remote prep work and initial mentor session with Lighting Designer w/c 9th November
– Join studio rehearsals up to 2.5 days between 10th – 14th November. Rehearsals in East London.
– Production Dates – 16th – 21st November
24th – 26th November 2026 *Please note, from production onwards, hours will follow those required, with potentially earlier starts and/or later finishes.

Successful applicants will be invited to a Zoom chat with members of the team, where we can get to know you better and discuss the role in more detail. After this time, one applicant will be invited to join the programme.
