The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party

ABOUT THE SHOW

Lewis Carroll’s Wonderland, reimagined into a Hip Hop infused tea party like no other.

The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party returns in 2027!

The Queen of Hearts has anger issues, Alice struggles with body image, and the Mad Hatter, suffering from mercury poisoning, just wants to drink tea!

Confined to ‘Ladrington Brook’, the Institution for Extremely Normal Behaviour, the characters find themselves under the care of Ernest, an expert in “normalisation theory.” Tasked with fixing the residents of Ward ‘W,’ Ernest soon discovers-what’s so great about being ‘normal’, anyway?

Synopsis

Through explosive Hip Hop choreography, witty narration, and original music, The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party transforms Wonderland into a high-energy, heartfelt exploration of identity, difference and self acceptance.

Background

Written and directed by Kate Prince, with music by Josh Cohen and DJ Walde, The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party was originally commissioned by the Royal Ballet and premiered at the Royal Opera House Linbury Theatre in 2014.

It later transferred to the Roundhouse in 2017, before being revived at the Linbury Theatre in 2024 for its 10th anniversary, in association with ZooNation and The Royal Ballet. It now returns in 2027.
