Wonderland is back and nothing about it is normal.
We are thrilled to announce that The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party comes to the Linbury Theatre, Royal Ballet and Opera, from 16 July-27 August 2027, in a co-production with The Royal Ballet.
The Queen of Hearts has anger issues, Alice struggles with body image, and the Mad Hatter, suffering from mercury poisoning, just wants to drink tea!
Confined to ‘Ladrington Brook’, the Institution for Extremely Normal Behaviour, the characters find themselves under the care of Ernest, an expert in “normalisation theory.” Tasked with fixing the residents of Ward ‘W,’ Ernest soon discovers-what’s so great about being normal, anyway?
Through explosive Hip Hop choreography, witty narration, and original music, The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party transforms Wonderland into a high-energy, heartfelt exploration of identity, difference and self-acceptance.
Written and directed by Kate Prince, with music by Josh Cohen and DJ Walde, The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party was originally commissioned by the Royal Ballet and premiered at the Royal Opera House Linbury Theatre in 2014, later transferring to the Roundhouse in 2017 and returning to the Linbury Theatre in 2024 for its 10th anniversary. It now returns in 2027.
When: 16 July 2027 – 27 August 2027
Where: Linbury Theatre, Royal Ballet and Opera, 35-36 Bow St, London WC2E 7AU
